From reuniting a cat with its owners to raising £500 through 5p jars, our shops are making a real difference this year.
When a kind member of the public told our Newton Abbot shop team about a cat hiding in the stairwell of the multi-storey car park, deputy manager Rachael went straight over to investigate. She brought the young cat back to the shop, where he spent the day enjoying food and fuss from staff and visitors.
As our Animal Welfare Officer was already tied up with other urgent jobs, our friends at Hector’s House kindly stepped in to help. Thanks to their quick response, we learned that the cat’s name was Gizmo – a three-year-old who had been missing since April. He had been neutered and microchipped, and his chip details helped us to trace his family.
With huge thanks to Rachael for keeping him safe, and to Zara, Kim and Kirsty from Hector’s House for attending so promptly, Gizmo is now happily back home with his relieved owners. This is a wonderful example of collaborative working between animal charities to achieve the very best outcome for animals in need.

Our Sidwell Street shop has raised an incredible £500 in just one year through the 5p jar challenge – all thanks to the wonderful idea from our volunteer, Val. We are so proud of Val for her creativity and dedication. Her idea has inspired so many supporters to get involved, proving that even the smallest coins can add up to something big. But we’re not stopping there… can we reach £600 next year? Pick up a jar from the shop, fill it with 5ps, and drop it back to us. Every penny really does make a difference.
Christmas is just around the corner, and our shops are the perfect place to find something special. Pick up your Christmas cards, stocking fillers, or gifts for animal lovers, and don’t forget – if you’re treating yourself to something new, consider donating your old items to our shops.
