Lost or Found an Animal?
There are various lost and found facilities and websites you can use if you have lost or found an animal.
The RSPCA is currently working with Pets Located, but other sites are available, such as:
You can also try to use social media to reunite a pet with its owner.
Facebook has lots of pages dedicated to lost and found pets – a search of the site should find you a lost and found pets page in your local area. Lots of towns and villages also have local pages dedicated to them so try posting details, with a photo if possible, on those pages.
Twitter is also very useful in helping to reunite lost and found pets.

Tips if you've lost your pet
Discovering a pet is missing is an incredibly worrying time for any animal lover. We’ve put together some tips which could help reunite you with your pet, but firstly we’d like to encourage you not to give up the search too soon. Lost or stolen pets, particularly cats, have been known to reappear many months after disappearing.

- Ask neighbours to check their sheds and garages, just in case your pet has managed to get locked in somewhere
- Phone local vets and rescue shelters – an injured or ill animal may have been handed in. If your pet is microchipped, then the vet or shelter staff should check this and be able to call you to say they have your pet BUT you need to keep your phone number up to date with the microchip company
- If out searching, early evening is best as it’s a little quieter and if you are calling and shaking treats, the sound will carry further
- Put up lost pet posters in all public places and noticeboards and drop off leaflets door-to-door in your area – use a photo if you have one and include a telephone number
- Contact your local newspaper – most local papers have a lost and found pet column
- Phone the local council (especially important for dogs as the council have responsibility for stray dogs) and police, to see if they have any record of your pet being found

- Stray dogs are the responsibility of your local council and not the RSPCA. That being said, we are here if you need advice and do take in some stray dogs. We generally recommend you contact local vets in your area to see if anyone is missing a dog first and foremost. You can also post about the dog you have found on social media
- We are normally full to capacity with cats at the Shelter, however do contact us if you find a stray in case we can find room for it. We will then continue the hunt for its owner (if no one comes forward to claim it we'll look for a new home)
- If you find any other animals, such as lost birds, rabbits, rodents and reptiles please contact the Shelter
