Say Cheese! (short for chihuahuas)

15 pint-sized pooches have stolen our hearts … and our names too!

For Little Valley’s dog team, it’s very much been the year of the chihuahua so far in 2025 after a call from a concerned family member saw the team spring into action to help a struggling Devon chihuahua guardian.

15 chihuahuas (affectionately known as ‘Chi’s’), ranging from puppies to adults, came into the Shelter’s care from the home, including 2 pregnant females. Named after some of Little Valley’s team members, we’ve been waving each of them off to their forever home to enjoy a bright future, and assisting with neutering those dogs remaining in the home.

Our sincere thanks go to Blue Cross Devon who took one of the pregnant females into foster, and to Cornwall branch for their assistance in taking on a number of the adult chihuahuas for rehoming. A very special mention also to our dog team for their hard work during this time, and specifically to Millie Heath (Animal Welfare Officer) for acting as liaison, Hannah Miell (Shelter Behaviourist) for supporting placement of the pregnant females, and Kerry Dustan (Animal Care Assistant) for sorting through all the very kind home offers that were submitted.
