Spring Brings New Faces and Fresh Momentum at the Shelter

From welcoming new team members to shaping the future of The Warren and beyond, it’s a season of progress, partnership, and positive change at Little Valley.

We’re so pleased to finally welcome Spring – and say goodbye to all that rain! Along with the sunshine, we’ve seen plenty of new faces join the Little Valley team. A huge welcome to our new Deputy Shelter Manager, Rhiannon Orris, who comes to us from Blue Cross Southampton with a wealth of experience in animal welfare operations (read Q&A with Rhiannon). We’re also thrilled to have Jody White and Evanna Crighton-Brown join as Animal Care Assistants (ACA).

As The Warren and our newly remodelled reception building start to take shape, we’re busy planning how best to make use of these improved spaces to create the greatest possible impact for animals in need across Devon and beyond. Keep an eye out for updates as we expand our education and community outreach and look forward to some exciting future events at the Shelter!

Collaboration continues to be at the heart of our work. Recently, after we were alerted to three dogs needing rescue from a field near the Shelter, ACA Lisa Priest and Assistant Manager – Veterinary and Administration, Fiona Wyatt jumped straight into action and brought them to safety. With temporarily limited kennel capacity owing to our building work at the Shelter, we’re deeply grateful to our friends at Animals in Distress for stepping in to provide rescue space for the dogs to help them find their forever homes.

This month also marks the end of a remarkable era, as we say a fond farewell to Dr Fay Gale, our much-loved vet of over 29 years. Fay has visited weekly from St David’s Vets in Exeter, providing invaluable support in the care and rehabilitation of countless animals. We are profoundly grateful for her expertise, kindness, and dedication, and delighted that she plans to continue helping us as a volunteer with our cat team. Wishing Fay a happy and well-deserved retirement!
